This kid had me stressed. The charter school he attends wants him to start taking college classes his 11th grade year. I have my reservations about him taking college classes while in high school.
In order for him to enroll in college he has to take the accuplacer test. The accuplacer evaluates a student's reading, writing and math skills. I asked my son all summer long to study for this test but he didn't want to study over the summer break. So me in my stressful state, I had him take the test last Thursday. College classes start in a few weeks and the test needed to be taken. Being a parent is sometimes stressful.
Well to my amazement and surprise he did extremely well for not studying. So I stressed out for nothing. His college advisor was amazed with his high math scores without him completing algrebra 2. He'll complete the algebra course in 2 more months.His college advisor wants him to continue with Shormann math through high school. His score is high enough for him to enroll in English 121. He was 12 points off from testing into college pre calculus. He tells me that he will achieve the 280 mark by May for pre-calculus. He hopes by the end of his senior year he will test into college calculus. This is a kid that doesn't want to go college and doesn't know what he wants to major in. Hmm, sounds like he may have some goals.
For those of you wondering. He had Saxon math in 7th grade and has done Shormann math in all his other grades. Shormann math is an online math program.
