I made a liquid version of the dry homemade laundry soap and here are the results:
I purchased a 55 oz. box of washing soda, a 76 oz box of Borax, and 4 bars of Fels Naptha bars. I paid $13.24 for all of these items. I made 3 gallons of liquid soap from 2/3 bar of soap, 1 cup of washing soda, 1 cup of Borax, and water. I figured out the math and it is roughly costing me about 85 cents of product to wash 14 loads of laundry. Wow! Now that is a savings! I do believe that the dry laundry soap washes better than the liquid soap. So, it looks like I will use up all the liquid soap and stick to making my own dry laundry soap.
Here is the recipe for the liquid version.
1/3 bar of Fels Naptha
1/2 cup Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax
~Grate soap & put in saucepan. Add 6 cups of water and heat until soap melts.
~Add Washing Soda & Borax. Stir until dissolved.
~Remove from heat.
~Pour 4 cups of hot water into bucket. Add mixture and stir.
~Add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir.
~Let it sit for 24 hours.
I doubled the recipe when I made it. Some people even add Oxyclean to their homemade laundry soap. Look on YouTube or Google to find more info on it.
