Well when we first arrived here at our new home 10/14/2008 we had so many walnuts on the ground from our trees. We told the kids if they pick the walnuts we would give them all the cash when we cash them in. I am so proud to say that Carissa and Nathan picked 19 burlap sacks full of walnuts within 2 weeks. They had only until 10/25/2008 to get them in or they could not be sold this year.
A local farmer who has befriended us offered to take in the walnuts in for us. So the kids, Brian, and the farmer piled in his truck and set out to cash in some walnuts.
What a great experiance for the kids. We look forward to picking the walnuts next year but hopefully we will have some tools to better help us.
PS: The people are so freindly here and want to help you. The people at the bank are a wealth of info. It is not like California. It reminds me of something I read in a book, maybe from Ann of Green Gables. You should see this bank it is so cozy and relaxed. In fact the tellers wear casual clothes everyday and you can even walk behind the teller line. They don't even lock their cash drawers. Everyone knows everyone. The community has welcomed us with open arms. God is so good!! He will never leave us where ever we go. I will try to write soon about our new home school group.
