Make Way For Ducklings

Aren't they just darling?? These 3 ducklings were given to our children from our neighbor.

This is a story about Mr. & Mrs. Duck and how they laid 5 eggs in our barn one day. Brian left the barn door open one day and that is how Mrs. Duck got in. Carissa found the eggs a few days later. The kids were so excited to have duck eggs in the barn. They immediately took the eggs to our neighbors because they did not belong to us. Our neighbor told the kids that she will put them in the incubator and when they hatch they will belong to them...since Mrs. Duck laid on our property. The kids were so excited when she said that. Four ducklings hatched but only 3 survived. Mr. Duckling disappeared shortly after the eggs were laid. Our neighbor believes an animal may have eaten him. There have been sightings of a bobcat and foxes in the area. Mrs. Duck was given away before her ducklings hatched, so the ducklings have no mom or dad to look after them. Carissa, Nathan, and Shane take good car…

This Week

Today, I thought I would teach the kids something about collecting stamps. We took used stamps off envelopes and laid them out to dry.
My collection of used/new stamps.

On Friday, I went to an estate sale and bought this porcelain doll for Carissa. I paid $5 for it.

I bought this set for $5 too. It is fine bone china from England and it will go nicely with my other tea set items.

Here is the latest item purchased. Yes, it is a Vita-Mix! After the estate sale I went the Sam's Club and they had a demo there. Brian and I have been wanting one for over 10 years. It looks like I was at the right place at the right time. This machine is amazing. Check it out at

I think Nathan is trying to look like his Pa Pa Joe.

Shane opening up his birthday present from his cousins.

We celebrated his birthday last Friday at Chuck E Cheese. He had a blast!!! Look at him trying to drive, he can't even reach the pedal. Too cute!!

I made homemade chocolate cupcakes with homemade strawber…

Update on the house

A new bench for our entryway.

I bought this to put potatoes, onions, or fruit in it. It is made of iron.

Our new phone in the kitchen. Don't you love vintage stuff! Carissa and Nathan said, " You mean we have to pay to use the telephone". I said, "You sure do".

This is how the bathroom looked before.

This is how it looks after Brian put in a new vanity, mirror, faucet, and light fixture. Oh, I know it looks a little bare but I am not done decorating this bathroom.

Jane Austen

I am a fan of Jane Austen and I finally watched the movie Becoming Jane this past weekend with Brian. I really enjoyed it but it was so sad. While we were watching the movie, Brian turns to me and says, "this movie is like Pride and Prejudice".

I know that she wrote her books about real life experiences. You have to appreciate her fine writing.

I've read Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion only. How are her other books? I have the audio books for Emma, Northanger Abbey, Sense and Sensibility, and Mansfield Park. I still have not listened to them yet. I've watched the new version of Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. I was not totally happy with the new Persuasion because it is not true to the book. The same goes for the newer version of Pride and Prejudice.

What is your favorite Jane Austen book? What is your least favorite book from Jane Austen?

Jump For Fun

This is our newest purchase. Yes, a trampoline. Jarrett paid for most of it from his Christmas money he received. He says, "Thank you".
Here are some pictures of the kids jumping before Brian put the enclosure on. They really enjoy jumping on it. In fact, it's a very good workout for an adult too.
